The wooden cross.

The wooden cross.

This cross was on a sand dune near the Monterey Bay, CA. In front of it is an history of it. It looks like it might have been there since 1769. In 2009 vandals cut it down. Since it wasn’t on private property the issue of public display of a religious figure came up. Well the vandals won and it was relocated to a shady corner of the cemetery. I was so disappointed when I happened to find it there. I expected it to have a prominent location, but I was wrong. I used to love to see it with the bay in the background, it was a signpost to me that we were entering Monterey.
